DIY Glow in the Dark Shoes
It’s been years since we went out dancing. In college, we would go out to the disco every Friday night after work. I always wore heels, and I don’t remember ever having sore feet. My how things have changed! I have no idea where to go dancing, I never wear heels, and going out on Fridays just doesn’t happen any more. I think it’s time for that to change.
I found these beautiful red pumps in my size at a thrift store last summer. I loved them immediately, and they actually fit really well. I decided it was a match made in heaven so I purchased them. I have put them on two or three times to wear to different events, but for one reason or another, they have never made it out the door. They really are too beautiful to just sit in my closet, so I decided to use them for a fun project I’d been wanting to try – DIY Glow in the Dark shoes!
- glow in the dark paint (I used Folk Art.)
- paintbrush or sponge
- old newspaper or rags
- a pair of shoes
This project is so simple it almost feels like a joke to write “directions”. But here they are nonetheless.
While at my local craft store, I came across some great glow in the dark paints from Folk Art. I was anxious to try them out and decided that the red heels were as good a canvas as any for this project.
The paint I chose has a matte finish so they aren’t quite as shiny as they were before, but I still love the finished product! I can’t wait to wear them on the dance floor. Have you ever seen someone out dancing with shoes that glow?
After I was done with this project, I started thinking of all the other possibilities. I think glow in the dark running shoes would be so fun, and also very practical! You could also paint a fun pair of dark hightop sneakers for a 70’s party. Next time, I’m going to try creating a design with painters tape before I paint the shoe. So many ideas, so little time! If you try this project, let me know! I’d love to see your creations.
